An Auditory Tour (Win/95/98 and Win/NT version)

How to Download over slow connections

The following steps are intended for those people who have trouble downloading the Auditory-Tour for Windows as one big 20 MB file. This can happen if the connection is slow or intermittent or time limited. The steps below describe how to download the archive in 5 smaller parts, and then recombine and extract them at your end.

These instructions should only be used if you have trouble downloading the single-file version. If your connection is fast/robust, please Click Here to download in the normal way.

  (1) Obtain and install an FTP program on your computer if you don't
already have one. I recommend John Junod's WS_FTP (32-bit), available from:

       http://www.ipswitch.com/junodj/

  (2) Use the FTP program to connect to:

      ftp.physiology.wisc.edu

Use "anonymous" for the user name, and your e-mail address for the password.
Select the folder named, "PUB", then "AUD-TOUR", then "WINDOWS",then "UUE"
  (i.e. change directories to /pub/aud-tour/windows/uue)

  (3) This directory contains the "Auditory Tour" for Win/95 and Win/NT,
broken up into 5 smaller sections.

There are five files in this directory, each approx. 6 MB in size. They are
named AUD1.UUE, AUD2.UUE,...... AUD5.UUE. (The fifth file is a bit smaller).

  (4) Download the five files into a temp directory on your computer.
Please use FTP in binary mode (do not download with a web browser).

  (5) Next, open an MS-DOS window, use CD to go to that temp directory, then
"concatanate" all the five files into one big file by using:

     COPY AUD*.UUE TEMP.UUE (for example)

This creates a new file TEMP.UUE which includes all the other five.

  (6) Finally, use the WINZIP program to "open" the temp.uue file and
"extract" it's contents. I used WINZIP V7.0, which you can get from
http://www.winzip.com for a free trial version. Other versions of Winzip
may also work. For the destination directory, specify the final place
where you want the animations to reside (e.g. C:\AUD).

  (7) The unzip process will create four new sub-folders, named "Anime",
"Audiogrm", "Anatomy" and "Quiz" within the destination folder. It will
place two files in the main folder (c:\aud, e.g.).

  (8) Start the Auditory Tour by double-clicking on the file "auditory.exe"
which is created by the unzip process.

Once the tour has been tested, you can delete all the AUD*.UUE and
  TEMP.UUE files.

System requirements: PC with Windows/95 or higher or Win/NT. Sound board
with speakers to listen to sounds. 60 MB free disc space.

A Macintosh version is available at:
