Garlic and Onion Pizza

This is my attempt to copy a pizza I had at an Italian restaurant in Zermatt, Switzerland in January 1993.

Ingredients

  • Basic Pizza dough for 16" pizza
  • Half medium onion
  • 1/3 c (one-third cup) chopped garlic
  • 6 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/3 c (one-third cup) pizza sauce
  • 1/2 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried crushed red hot peppers (optional)
  • 1 cup Mozzarella cheese (grated)
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese (grated)

Preheat oven to 500 degs. Fahrenheit. (260 degs. C)

Slice onion thinly then separate into long pieces. Roll dough into pizza shape and place in 16" pan. Sprinkle evenly with olive oil. Spread pizza sauce evenly. Spread onion and garlic evenly. Sprinkle oregano and pepper (optional). Next, spread the mozzarella cheese evenly. Finally, spread the grated parmesan cheese evenly on pizza surface.

Bake in preheated oven for 13 minutes at 500 deg F, or until crust is golden brown. The time may need to be varied somewhat for different ovens.
