What I do

I am an academic staff member at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. I work in the Department of Physiology, doing computer programming and a variety of computer support work, mainly related to the research going on in the department. A large part of that research involves the study of hearing, which means that computers are needed to generate sound stimuli and also to collect and display neural response data in electrophysiology setups.

I write programs and device drivers to accomplish these types of tasks, as well as programs used in behavioral experiments. Much of this is done on VAX computers running the VMS operating system, with specialized peripherals for stimulus generation and event timing. I am also programming stimulus systems running under Windows NT and Windows 2000, including work with TDT hardware. Most of my work is written in C, with some programs in VAX Macro language, and an occasional routine in Fortran. I also have done some work on Web pages for the Department of Neurophysiology.

My Background

I went to school at the U of I in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, and received a B.S and M.S. in Physics there. I then spent a few years in Geneva, Switzerland, where I studied French Language and Civilization at the University of Geneva, and then did computer work at CERN. I then worked at Rockefeller University in New York City, doing more computer work in Biochemistry and in Neurobiology.

Go to where the Neurophysiology computer folks hang out, which is naturally in the Basement
